With over 25 years of experience in corporate communications and strategic philanthropy, Michelle Adams brings valuable expertise to BNP Inspire, gained notably at Rio Tinto, the world’s second largest metals and mining company.
Her professional background demonstrates extensive expertise in social investment management, community relations, and philanthropy. Most recently, Michelle served as Principal Advisor, Social Investment for nearly 15 years. In this role, she managed dozens of high-profile partnerships and sponsorships for the Rio Tinto Aluminum Canada Fund, which invests more than $10 million annually in key areas such as culture and heritage, education and STEM, health and wellness, reducing inequality, and supporting communities, including First Nations, across Canada.
Committed and dedicated, Michelle distinguished herself as a member of the Leaders’ Circle and director of the United Way campaign at the Montreal head office, helping to raise more than $7 million over 11 years. This remarkable commitment earned Rio Tinto two prestigious awards in 2014: a “Solidaire” award and the “Coup de Cœur Appui Global” award.
Michelle also has solid experience in corporate communications, having held various key roles in media relations, digital strategy and social media, internal and external communications, environment, health and safety, social responsibility, investor relations, and brand strategy, as well as being responsible for various special projects. In addition, she was co-president of the social club and chair of the francization committee for five years. Her creativity, versatility, initiative, kindness, and dedication have been recognized throughout her career by her peers and partners.
For nearly 20 years, Michelle has been involved in the Montreal community. She has served on the boards of directors of Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal, Alloprof, and the College of Montreal Foundation, contributing her expertise in communications and philanthropy to support education and the arts. She is currently a member of the United Nations Association in Greater Montreal, a director of the Landry Family Foundation, and a volunteer with organizations dedicated to children.
Michelle holds a bachelor’s degree in public communication with a concentration in journalism and a minor in art history from Laval University. She has also completed several management development programs at McGill University and Alcan/Rio Tinto.
Passionate about travel, she has visited 41 countries, enriching her perspective and understanding of cultures and social realities. This openness to the world enriches her practice in philanthropy, allowing her to adopt a nuanced approach tailored to each context.
