A recognized leader in the community and philanthropic sector, Deirdre Speers brings over 35 years of experience in executive leadership within nonprofit organizations across Canada. Throughout her career, she has contributed to the development of organizational strategies, strengthened governance, and implemented operational plans to support the growth and mission of the organizations she serves.
The contribution of community organizations has been central to her career. Deirdre is particularly inspired by the essential role charities play in supporting families, children, and communities. She firmly believes that strong networks, welcoming environments, and accessible services enable individuals and communities to grow and thrive.
Before joining BNP Inspire, Deirdre held several leadership positions in the community sector, including Executive Director of Family Services Ottawa and Chief Executive Officer of the YMCA-YWCA of the National Capital Region. In these roles, she led large teams, supported the strategic development of organizations, and contributed to the implementation of impactful initiatives designed to meet community needs.
Among her notable achievements, Deirdre contributed to the launch of a $15 million fundraising campaign for Family Services Ottawa, chaired a regional initiative bringing together more than 60 mental health organizations during the pandemic, and helped develop initiatives aimed at strengthening the impact of community services.
Beyond her professional responsibilities, she is actively involved in several organizations and community initiatives, including Parents Lifelines of Eastern Ontario (PLEO) and Big Brothers Big Sisters, as well as various national and provincial boards and committees related to the community sector. A strong advocate for collective action, Deirdre believes that lasting change emerges when organizations, communities, and partners work together to address social needs. Her commitment is to support organizations in building strong strategies, enhancing governance, and increasing their impact within communities.
