A recognized leader in the philanthropic sector, she brings more than 35 years of executive leadership experience within nonprofit organizations across Canada, with deep expertise in governance, strategic planning, and organizational development.
Strengthening Organizational Impact to Better Support Communities
Throughout her career, Deirdre Speers has contributed to the development of organizational strategies, the strengthening of governance practices, and the implementation of operational plans aimed at supporting the growth and mission of the organizations she serve
She is particularly inspired by the essential role charitable organizations play in supporting families, children, and communities as a whole. She strongly believes that strong networks, welcoming environments, and accessible services enable people to grow and thrive.
Before joining BNP Inspire, Deirdre held several leadership positions in the community sector, notably as Executive Director of Family Services Ottawa and Chief Executive Officer of the YMCA-YWCA of the National Capital Region. In these roles, she led large teams, supported strategic organizational development, and contributed to the implementation of major initiatives designed to address community needs.
Significant Achievements Driven by a Collaborative Vision
Among the notable achievements throughout her career, Deirdre Speers contributed to the development of a $15 million fundraising campaign for Family Services Ottawa. She also chaired a regional mental health initiative during the pandemic, bringing together more than 60 organizations, and participated in the development of initiatives aimed at strengthening the impact of community services.
Beyond her professional roles, she is actively involved in several community organizations and initiatives, including Parents’ Lifelines of Eastern Ontario (PLEO) and Big Brothers Big Sisters, as well as various national and provincial boards and committees related in the community sector.
Convinced of the importance of collective action, Deirdre believes that lasting change emerges when organizations, communities, and partners work together to better respond to societal needs.
