For nearly ten years, Karine Gareau has worked in philanthropy, supporting organizations in the development of their fundraising strategies, donor engagement, and the implementation of strategic initiatives. She has strong expertise in philanthropic strategy, major campaigns, organizational management, and partnership development. Throughout her career, she has developed solicitation strategies targeting individual and corporate donors, managed relationships with major donors, foundations, and strategic partners, and contributed to the development of new fundraising initiatives.

Recognized for her ability to mobilize teams and partners around shared objectives, she has a particular interest in donor retention, governance, and the implementation of philanthropic strategies that generate concrete and lasting impact. As Executive Director of the Fondation de l’Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue, she notably led the Building the Future Now major campaign, launched with a $25 million goal, and contributed to the implementation of several strategic projects in research, education, and student success. She also created five scholarship programs, including one dedicated to Indigenous students.

Before joining BNP Inspire, Karine served as Executive Director and later as Project Manager in Philanthropic Development at the Fondation de l’UQAT. Her professional career also took her to the Centre ressources jeunesse de l’Abitibi-Témiscamingue and Accès-Cible SMT, where she developed an in-depth understanding of the realities of the community sector and of supporting individuals. She holds a Master’s degree in Organizational Management and a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology, and is also a PhD candidate in Social Communication at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières.

  • Selected for BNP Inspire’s “25 Faces, 25 Impacts” exhibition (2025), highlighting individuals who have made remarkable contributions to the advancement of philanthropy.
  • Ann-Boudreau-Paiement Award (2024), presented to the UQAT Foundation by the Rouyn-Noranda Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
  • Master’s thesis accepted without revisions, with an “excellent” distinction, following the jury’s unanimous recommendation (2023).

Achievements

  • Leadership of the Fondation de l’UQAT’s Building the Future Now major campaign, the largest in the institution’s history, launched with a $25 million goal and ultimately exceeding that target.
  • Through this campaign, contribution to the development of major strategic projects, including two research chairs, the James Bay Observatory, the new Mont-Laurier campus, student scholarship programs, and an interdisciplinary teaching and research clinic in health care and psychosocial services.
  • Creation of five scholarship programs aimed at supporting the success of UQAT’s next generation of students and researchers, including a program for Indigenous students.
  • Publication of scholarly work and communications in philanthropy, particularly on donor retention and the evolution of philanthropy in Quebec.
