Floyd W. Dykeman has 40 years’ experience, the last 30 as a leader in higher education. Through his work at the executive level of universities, he has played a key role in increasing philanthropic support for two of Canada’s leading universities, propelling them to the top ranks in the country.
Floyd excels at building communities of interest, aligning around shared visions and developing tactical plans to achieve concrete results through focused execution. He has a deep understanding of the role of philanthropy, the private sector and governments in delivering exceptional results.
Recognized as one of Atlantic Canada’s most successful fundraisers, Floyd has raised close to $400 million over eight years at Dalhousie University. In doing so, he has helped make the institution one of the most innovative in Canada, and created one of the most generous scholarship programs in the country. He also raised over $75 million for Mount Allison University, increasing the endowment from $26 million to $80 million.
As a volunteer, Floyd chaired a working committee that led to the creation of Cape Chignecto Park in Nova Scotia. Most recently, he headed the building committee for the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, securing significant funding for this groundbreaking $120-million building on the Halifax waterfront.
